MADELINE TURNER
[Turner, C; 2011] Dor Tet 42”; MLa 6.5” 3-4 way branching; 21 buds; Light plum-lavender ruffled petals with a pale watermark; lighter lavender sepals edged with somewhat deeper lavender; gold-green throat; and medium green foliage; fertile both ways. True northern branching and bud count; watered only by nature and unfertilized after seedling-year.
An excellent all-around garden daylily with strong presence, Madeline Turner is named for our mother who, after secretarial and homemaking careers; in her last two decades (eighth and ninth) has become a painter, sculptress, and cartoonist with an avid interest in current events. LIAR’S POKER [Curt Turner – 2010] Dor. Tet. 34" LM 7-71/2" Frag. Vigorous, blooming second year from seed; pollen fertile; pod fertile with coaxing. True northern branching and bud count (seventeen buds on three-way terminal branching) as I don’t fertilize or water. LIAR’S POKER is a large rich plum-purple (RHS# 187B) with a wide lavender-blue chalk-eye watermark (RHS# 76B) comparing very favorably with others of this type with regard to size, dormancy, fragrance, vigor, color-value and clarity. A thin pale yellow/white edge matches the color of the throat transition zone from the chalk-eye to the green throat as well as the color of the sepal band. Adding to the enjoyment of special daylilies, and not usually commented upon, discerning observers will note the same full matching color-transition throughout the length of the stamen filaments and the pistil - especially visible in the above photograph. In certain lights, LIAR’S POKER exhibits a black haze and black highlights close to its ruffled edges. It has maroon veining and midribs which are bisected by a thin dark pencil-line. Blooms are held nicely above medium green foliage.
Intriguing, alluring, romantic and sensual, LIAR’S POKER bespeaks of a full moon, a late hour, a perfumed elbow, a clink of coins, an amber liquid in a short glass and a hint of cigar smoke on the night air. (Wild Blue Yonder x Self) [$50.00 SF]

CHAMBERMAIDENS [Curt Turner-2010] Dor. Dip 43" EM 3-3/4" Fertile both ways. As I don’t fertilize or water, true northern branching (4-way) and bud count (18). Complete medium-yellow self from throat to tepal tip distinguished by a broad medium-brown vertical stripe running nearly the outside length of each sepal. When fully open, these stripes create the illusion of reverse bicoloration. Fully budded, Chambermaidens displays an unusually attractive bicolor demarcation beginning with green at the base and followed upwardly by brown until it ends with a touch of green again at the tip. Fertile both ways, its smooth-edged upturned flowers are well-spaced and, even in clump strength, are held uncrowdedly above medium-green foliage.
Drawing strongly favorable garden-visitor comments, including tetraploid aficionados, Chambermaidens presents itself cleanly as a standout landscape specimen. [(Seedling x Unknown) X (Tom Collins x Toy Trumpets) $18.00 Clump ***Please Order This Plant Directly from GWF ***

MEMORIALIZE
